Is it cheaper to frame your own pictures?

Framing your own pictures can be a more cost effective approach then buying pictures pre-framed. Our frames are designed to be easy to use. The backs of the frames are simple to open and allow you to place your own photo or artwork behind the mat board. Once the frame is closed up again, you will love the professionally framed effect you have achieved. The frames are lightweight and can be hung portrait or landscape to suit your artwork. Because they are lightweight, you can easily hang these using 3M hooks or stickers if need be.

What size frame do I need for an A3 print?

To frame an A3 print, you can choose either our A3 frame or our A2 frame. Our A2 frame comes with a mat board that is designed to fit an A3 print inside. Place your A3 print behind the mat board to get a professionally framed with the mat board surround. If you prefer to frame your A3 print without a mat board, choose an A3 frame and remove the mat board before putting your print in the frame.

What size frame do I need for an A2 print?

For an A2 print you will need a frame that is either A2 size or A1 or poster size. Our A2 frames are perfect for framing A2 prints by removing the mat board before placing your print inside. Alternatively, choose an A1 or poster size frame. We have designed the mat board in these frames to perfectly fit an A2 print inside. You may also want to consider the style and colour of your frame in order to complement the artwork and enhance the overall aesthetic of the space where it will be displayed.

What is the purpose of a mat board?

Mat boards, also known as matting boards or a mat, are flat pieces of high quality paper or card that are used for framing artwork and photographs. Their purpose is to create a border or gap between the artwork and the frame in order to protect it from direct contact with the glass. They can also enhance the overall appearance of an artwork by providing a visual buffer between the art and its frame, helping to draw the attention to the artwork itself.

Mat boards come in a wide range of colours, thicknesses and quality and can be customised to fit the size and shape of any piece of art or photograph. They can also be used for creating multiple openings, allowing for the framing of multiple pieces of art in a single frame. Mat boards are also used in conjunction with frames, glasses and backing boards to create a complete set for a picture frame

Should I buy a frame bigger than the picture?

When you're buying a frame the general recommendation is to go for a frame that is slightly larger than whatever you're trying to frame. This is because the mat board or mount you use with the frame will take up some space, leaving a small gap between your artwork and the frame which makes it look more substantial and prominent on the wall.

Additionally, larger frames tend to give you more flexibility in how you want to display your artwork. For instance you may want to add a mat board which creates a border around your art and allows you to crop it in a certain way. Larger frames can accommodate these design choices without detracting from the overall appearance of the piece.

With all that said, it is still important to keep in mind that going too large is perhaps more detrimental to the overall look of your artwork, so it's always a good idea to measure carefully and choose a frame that will enhance the appearance of the photo or artwork you are framing.

Should all of my picture frames match?

Whether you want your picture frames to match or not is a matter of personal preference and the style you want to achieve in your home decor. Matching frames create a cohesive and uniform look, whilst mismatched frames add an eclectic and unique feel. However, if you choose to go for different frames, it can be helpful to choose frames with common elements such as colour or material in order to tie them together. Additionally, if the style of the artwork or the placement of the frames ties them together this can also help to create a sense of cohesion. Ultimately, the decision to match your frames or not depends on your personal taste as well as the overall look and feel you want to achieve in your space.

How do you make a cheaper frame look expensive?

Our picture frames are designed to give you an expensive look with a budget price. We've carefully chosen classic finishes and proportions so that these cheap frames will give you a quality look that beautifully complements your home's decor.

Another easy way of making a cheap frame look more expensive is to choose a mat which complements the art or photograph you're displaying. Using a double mat adds depth and dimension to the framing of the artwork, creating a professional high end look.
