The Ashford Rattan Armchair / Dining Chair combines the comfort of an occasional chair with proportions that also work around a dining table. Handwoven from naturally aged kubu rattan, it features a softly curved back, gently sloping arms and a warm weathered grey-brown colour. The close weave creates a supportive silhouette while giving the chair the relaxed texture and individual character associated with traditional rattan craftsmanship.
Rattan dining chair
Use a set of Ashford chairs around a dining table to create an inviting setting for everyday meals and leisurely gatherings. A single chair also works beautifully in a living room, bedroom corner or sunroom, where its embracing shape creates a comfortable place to read or unwind. The included cream cotton seat cushion softens the woven frame and provides approximately 6 cm of additional cushioning. This versatile design may also be enjoyed on a covered verandah or protected entertaining area, provided it remains sheltered from rain, moisture and direct sunlight.
Rattan occasional chair
The kubu colouring is achieved naturally by soaking the rattan in clay-rich water, rather than applying a painted finish. This process produces subtle variations in tone that complement the individual character of the handwoven cane. Its high curved back provides visual presence without relying on heavy upholstery, while the integrated arms give the chair a generous, settled feel. Equally at home with a natural wood dining table or beside other woven furniture, the Ashford brings warmth and practical flexibility to French Provincial, country and relaxed coastal interiors.

This item is shipped from our Peakhurst NSW warehouse.
If your item is in stock, please allow approximately 3–7 business days for despatch. Furniture is sent with a specialist furniture carrier and delivery is generally expected within approximately 1–5 business days after despatch, depending on your location and carrier availability.
If your item is on backorder, please refer to the expected despatch timeframe shown above. This is our best estimate based on the latest information from our supplier, but dates can occasionally change due to production or international shipping delays. Placing your order will reserve your item from the incoming stock and we’ll let you know if there are any significant changes to the expected arrival date.

Furniture Delivery & Freight
Because furniture is bulky, delivery is arranged with specialist independent furniture carriers rather than our standard parcel couriers. Freight charges vary according to the size of the item and your delivery location.
Our website will calculate a freight charge at checkout and this will be correct in most cases. However, furniture freight is individually quoted by our carriers and the online calculator can occasionally be inaccurate, particularly for some rural or regional locations.
If the actual freight cost is significantly different from the amount calculated at checkout, we’ll contact you before arranging delivery to advise you of the correct freight charge.
Furniture deliveries are to the front door only. Carrier pricing does not include taking furniture inside your home, positioning it or unpacking it.

About Rattan
Rattan is a beautiful material for making furniture that naturally grows in very long canes perfect for weaving. To create a basket, the canes are cut down and then the long bundles are soaked in water for a few weeks to produce this lovely aged, warm grey colour known locally as 'kubu'. It is a very strong material that is perfect for making lightweight yet very sturdy pieces.
Rattan Care
- As a natural material, rattan is sensitive to its environment and a little bit of care and attention will keep it at its best.
- Keep your rattan out of direct sunlight and do not keep it where it can get wet from rain. The sun can cause the colour of the rattan to change and it can also cause it to dry and split.
- Brush your rattan on a regular basis to remove dust and prevent the growth of mildew. If you live in a humid climate, make sure to do this more often. Using a brush allows you to get into the gaps in the weaving to keep the item free of dust and dirt.
- To clean the rattan, simply wipe it down with a damp (not wet) cloth dipped in a solution of warm water and mild dish soap. Do not over wet the rattan and do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives. Make sure it can dry quickly.
- If something is spilled on it, clean it straight away. Colours from the spill can be absorbed into the natural material so don't leave it.
- As a handwoven item, if you notice any rattan canes or poles that have become unwoven, simply slip them back into their original position by hand.
- Woven rattan is a strong material and is built to last - but like all handmade pieces, it has limits. Avoid overloading with excessive weight to maintain its form, beauty and structural integrity.
Some variations in the canes used in the weaving are to be expected as it is a natural material. These are not considered imperfections but are inherent to the character of a natural handwoven product.
