The Clifton Rattan Armchair and Dining Chair offers the ease of relaxed occasional seating with proportions suited to the dining table. Handcrafted from natural rattan in a softly weathered grey-brown finish, it combines a rounded back and flowing arms with open latticework through the sides and lower frame. A removable seat cushion with a natural cotton cover softens the structured weave, giving the chair a comfortable, welcoming character without hiding its detailed craftsmanship.

Use the Clifton around a wooden dining table to create a warm, textural setting for everyday meals, or place one beside a side table as an occasional chair for reading and conversation. Its neutral colouring pairs naturally with linen, ceramics, woven rugs and muted greenery, making it especially well suited to Provincial, country and relaxed coastal interiors. The versatile shape also works in a bedroom retreat, sunroom or covered verandah. When used outside, it must remain under cover and protected from direct weather, as the natural rattan is not intended for exposed all-weather use.

Rattan occasional chair

Long rattan canes are shaped and woven by hand to form the chair’s graceful curves, supportive arms and decorative lattice panels. The removable cotton cushion cover has a zipper closure so it can be taken off for washing, helping the chair remain practical for regular use. Natural variations in the rattan canes and kubu colouring are expected, giving every chair subtle differences in tone and texture. Protect the frame from rain and prolonged direct sunlight, brush the weave regularly and wipe gently with a damp cloth when needed. Whether used at the table or as a standalone accent chair, the Clifton brings useful flexibility and enduring natural texture to the room.

This item is shipped from our Peakhurst NSW warehouse.

If your item is in stock, please allow approximately 3–7 business days for despatch. Furniture is sent with a specialist furniture carrier and delivery is generally expected within approximately 1–5 business days after despatch, depending on your location and carrier availability.

If your item is on backorder, please refer to the expected despatch timeframe shown above. This is our best estimate based on the latest information from our supplier, but dates can occasionally change due to production or international shipping delays. Placing your order will reserve your item from the incoming stock and we’ll let you know if there are any significant changes to the expected arrival date.

Furniture Delivery & Freight

Because furniture is bulky, delivery is arranged with specialist independent furniture carriers rather than our standard parcel couriers. Freight charges vary according to the size of the item and your delivery location.

Our website will calculate a freight charge at checkout and this will be correct in most cases. However, furniture freight is individually quoted by our carriers and the online calculator can occasionally be inaccurate, particularly for some rural or regional locations.

If the actual freight cost is significantly different from the amount calculated at checkout, we’ll contact you before arranging delivery to advise you of the correct freight charge.

Furniture deliveries are to the front door only. Carrier pricing does not include taking furniture inside your home, positioning it or unpacking it.

About Rattan

Rattan is a beautiful material for making furniture that naturally grows in very long canes perfect for weaving. To create a basket, the canes are cut down and then the long bundles are soaked in water for a few weeks to produce this lovely aged, warm grey colour known locally as 'kubu'. It is a very strong material that is perfect for making lightweight yet very sturdy pieces.

Rattan Care

As a natural material, rattan is sensitive to its environment and a little bit of care and attention will keep it at its best.
Keep your rattan out of direct sunlight and do not keep it where it can get wet from rain. The sun can cause the colour of the rattan to change and it can also cause it to dry and split.
Brush your rattan on a regular basis to remove dust and prevent the growth of mildew. If you live in a humid climate, make sure to do this more often. Using a brush allows you to get into the gaps in the weaving to keep the item free of dust and dirt.
To clean the rattan, simply wipe it down with a damp (not wet) cloth dipped in a solution of warm water and mild dish soap. Do not over wet the rattan and do not use harsh chemicals or abrasives. Make sure it can dry quickly.
If something is spilled on it, clean it straight away. Colours from the spill can be absorbed into the natural material so don't leave it.
As a handwoven item, if you notice any rattan canes or poles that have become unwoven, simply slip them back into their original position by hand.
Woven rattan is a strong material and is built to last - but like all handmade pieces, it has limits. Avoid overloading with excessive weight to maintain its form, beauty and structural integrity.

Some variations in the canes used in the weaving are to be expected as it is a natural material. These are not considered imperfections but are inherent to the character of a natural handwoven product.
